Computing and Data Sharing Center

The "Integrated Application Service Platform for Real-time Processing of Marine Satellite Data and Numerical Assimilation Forecasting" is a set of highly integrated software and hardware systems consisting of servers, storage and high-speed network equipment. The functions of the platform mainly include real-time processing and storage of remote sensing data, displaying data products, providing online analysis, and assimilation and numerical prediction of ocean data.

The upgrade of the Computing and Data Sharing Center will significantly improve the laboratory's capabilities in scientific research and technical support services in satellite remote sensing and numerical prediction, and contribute to building an international advanced integrated collaborative research platform for real-time reception and processing of satellite observation data, efficient storage and management, numerical assimilation and forecasting, information visualization monitoring, and product release and sharing. The platform will focus on further understanding the marine environment, developing marine resources and ensuring ocean security. On top of that, the scientists of the platform will further research on dynamics and mechanism of the marine environment, independently develop marine environment monitoring, early warning and forecasting systems, and serve for major national needs including disaster prevention and mitigation, and protection of marine rights and interests.

The devices of the platform mainly include numerical computation and data storage. The cluster uses an Intel X86 architecture server as the CPU computing core. The theoretical peak value of the CPU's dual-precision floating-point computing capacity of the computing node part reaches 240 trillion times per second. The total storage capacity reaches 4 PB, and all ports achieve 100 Gbps non-blocking high-speed interconnection full line, which can meet the computing needs of more than 100 users. With the 10G internal network to connect numerical computation and data storage, the center will gradually open to the institutions outside SIO.
