Recently, a delegation led by Deputy Director Mei Xianjun of our institute visited Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to conduct exchanges on further deepening cooperation in the marine sector. The delegation visited the Chittagong Port Authority, Chittagong University, Bangladesh National Oceanographic and Fisheries Research Institute, Cox’s Bazar Station of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) of Sri Lanka, and the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, among others.
During the stay in Bangladesh, the delegation first visited the Chittagong Port Authority and held in-depth discussions with the Deputy Director and other Bangladeshi representatives, covering topics of mutual interest including marine environmental data sharing and monitoring of environmental changes in port waters.
Subsequently, the delegation visited Chittagong University in person and held discussions with Professor Abu Taher, Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University, Professor Benu Kumar Dey, Academic Vice-Chancellor, and other relevant personnel of the university. The two sides signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of marine remote sensing.
Later, the two sides jointly held an Advanced Training Course on Ocean Color Remote Sensing (SatCO2-2024), which attracted researchers, professors, and students from Chittagong University and other research institutions in Bangladesh. The training focused on marine ecological remote sensing and in-situ observation technologies, and introduced practical experience in remote sensing tools and data analysis techniques to the participants. Through lectures delivered by researchers including Researcher He Xianqiang, Researcher Bai Yan, Researcher Mao Zhihua, Senior Engineer Ran Lihua, and Associate Researcher Li Teng, the participants improved their knowledge in marine ecological environment, coastal water quality, marine carbon flux, remote sensing application systems, and in-situ observation technologies, which promoted cooperation between our institute and local research institutions and universities in Bangladesh. At the conclusion of the training course, Deputy Director Mei Xianjun and other representatives from the Second Institute of Oceanography, together with the university, presented certificates to the participants.
At the Bangladesh National Oceanographic and Fisheries Research Institute, the two sides discussed cooperation in marine ecological environment protection, fishery remote sensing, and seabed sediment detection through academic presentations. At the Cox’s Bazar Station of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, our delegation introduced the basic research profile of our institute. The Bangladeshi side expressed the hope that through mutual cooperation, the advantages of our institute in scientific research and technologies such as marine remote sensing could be fully leveraged to advance local work in marine ecological environment protection, fishery remote sensing, and seabed sediment detection.
In Sri Lanka, the delegation visited the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) and held detailed discussions with the Chairman of NARA and other Sri Lankan representatives on relevant cooperation projects. The two sides discussed and revised the project implementation plans item by item and proposed corresponding solutions. At the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, the delegation held a meeting and post-meeting exchanges with the university’s president, faculty members, and student representatives. The two sides discussed joint scientific research cooperation. The Sri Lankan side expressed willingness to deepen practical cooperation with our institute in marine remote sensing and further promote exchanges and cooperation in multiple marine fields.
This visit has yielded fruitful results and reached a series of important consensus, laying a solid foundation for further deepening the international cooperation of our institute in marine science and technology. Moving forward, our institute will uphold the concept of win-win cooperation and actively advance cooperation, exchanges, and project implementation.
