June 8 is the 15th "World Oceans Day" and the 16th "National Ocean Awareness Day". Focusing on the theme of "protecting the marine ecosystem and harmonious coexistence of man and nature", this Zhejiang home promotion event was held in Cangnan, Wenzhou. The event was hosted by the Donghai Bureau of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Natural Resources and the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government. Huang Haibo, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Donghai Bureau of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ruan Biao, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Natural Resources, Li Wuwen, Member of the Standing Committee of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Vice Mayor, and other leaders attended the event. Researcher Bai Yan from our office was invited to participate in this event and gave a special report entitled "Remote Sensing Technology for Marine Carbon Sink Monitoring".
At the event site, the first mangrove blue carbon trading signing ceremony in Zhejiang Province was held. Everyone witnessed how mangroves exert economic value through carbon sequestration and storage, changing from "priceless" to "valuable". The proceeds from this mangrove carbon sequestration project will be directly used for marine ecological protection and restoration work, striving to achieve a win-win goal of ecological and economic benefits. At the same time, mangrove blue carbon trading will help promote the marketization process of blue carbon resources and the comprehensive development of the blue carbon voluntary market, compliance market and inclusive market, becoming a new fulcrum for the development of the marine economy.
