On November 23, “Marine Satellite Data Online Analysis Platform” (“SatCO2 Platform”) , which was jointly developed by State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics (SOED), Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources, and Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Geographic Information Systems, Department of Earth Sciences, Zhejiang University, China, was released in Hangzhou.
There were over 150 participants attending the press conference, and the press conference was hosted by Director General of the Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Resources, Dr. Huang Daji.
Dr. Bai Yan, deputy director of SOED, unveiled the SatCO2 platform, and introduced the development, design, product positioning, history and development of the platform, and vividly demonstrated the formidable functions of SatCO2 platform in the form of operation video and case application explanation. Dr. Bai said that SatCO2 is an innovative data application sharing platform designed to make marine remote sensing data a readily available resource, and it shares the understanding of remote sensing data by SOED Oceanic Satellite Remote Sensing Technology Innovation Team, and the experience and results in the field of remote sensing research, in order to share with the public in the most convenient way and the largest scope.
Dr. Bai Yan said that SatCO2 platform is a free and open platform, and also a developing platform. The platform not only serves the majority of scientific research groups and marine workers, but also hopes to gradually establish an ecosystem, including user, feedback rater, demand provider, product verifier, algorithm contributor, data set contributor, application developer, etc. through this public release. In the future, as the user community expands, SatCO2 will increase the citation rate of contributors through signatures, citations and acknowledgments.
Leaders from all walks of life expressed their congratulations on the successful release of SatCO2 platform. Chief of the Department of Scientific Development Gao Ping pointed out: "The press conference showed a good case, linking data and analysis, and finally the application, and provided researchers with remote sensing information technology in a very convenient way. In addition, it is also a great thing to make scientific research vivid by using a variety of vivid display methods, so that decision makers, researchers and the public can understand the scientific information contained in it. In the past 10 years, this outstanding scientific team has been persistent and, with the support of various programs, has achieved great results." Finally, she congratulated the success of the press conference, and also hoped that SIO would promote good achievements, good models, and lead more scholars to accelerate achievements.
General secretary of the National Satellite Ocean Application Service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Lin Mingsen, expressed his congratulations on the successful release of SatCO2. He also pointed out that SatCO2 platform achieved a shared win-win situation and provided scientists and users with easy-to-use products which met the urgent needs. Based on the long-term accumulation of SIO in the past decade, the official version of SatCO2 Platform 1.0 has been developed. Compared with the test versions released in previous years, the official version of this release has a new upgrade in terms of functions and other aspects; National Satellite Ocean Application Service will continue to provide support and service on global satellite data acquisition and standard products.
Director of Satellite Environment Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Gao Jixi, said that SatCO2 platform is innovative,  forward-looking, and practical. It is a milestone significance for the research team of SIO by releasing SatCO2 platform and actively sharing data at home and abroad.
Academician Dai Minhan of Xiamen University said that it was very rare to hold such a conference in the scientific community. This was a pioneering work itself. Opening and sharing is the only way for the development of future marine research at home and abroad. SatCO2 platform has built a very good platform for marine researchers.
Other experts also expressed their congratulations on the release of SatCO2 platform and their appreciation for promoting marine remote sensing data application.
After the press conference, participants also had training on SatCO2 platform to experience the convenience and practicality brought by SatCO2 platform, and provided valuable suggestions for the further improvement of the platform.
